What is your favourite improv game?
3-Way Cross Dub. Most improvisers dislike this game... I LOVE IT!

What are you obsessed with these days?
The snow. I love this wintery weather! When it's gone in the city, I'll be up in the mountains snowshoeing, snowboarding, and making snow angels. I'm also a bit obsessed with reading solopreneur business books and blogs - I have been thinking a lot about what kinds of content I want to create and release into the world as an improv/musical improv teacher and performer and how to keep that content authentic. Also - cookies. Because, delicious.

Describe improv in three words
Fresh thoughts motion.

What is your favourite improv game?
I love this game called Slide Show. Two players strike various poses (as if in photographs), while another player describes and justifies the assumed positions. I like any game where someone outside the action gives a running commentary.

What are you obsessed with these days?
I'm enjoying having a proper place for everything I own, and putting everything away before I wind down for the night. The feeling of having an uncluttered living room helps me relax. Then, when I wake up in the morning, I get out jump out of bed into a clean slate space, which makes me excited to write to-do lists, and fill the day with activity. Pick up a copy of Woman's World at your local grocer to read more inspirational paragraphs like this.

Who should be an improvisor but isn't?
Everyone! All children are improvisors. They play, they imitate, they make up stories. I feel sad when I hear grown people say things like, "I could never do that" or "I'm not creative" because I don't believe those things to be true. I think it's more accurate to say we are afraid of failing, afraid of being judged, afraid of having our egos wounded. It's not that I think everyone has to be up on stages every-flipping-where if they aren't interested. But I feel strongly that we're all capable of playing in this way, it's fun and useful skill, and I would encourage any apprehensive curious person to give it a try!

Where can people find you online?
I usually just google "Kyla Ferrier" and then feel super embarrassed when I find weird blog posts and videos I posted a decade ago. Digital footprints are the worst. Last year I was stalking myself, and found the Angelfire webpage I made when I was in grade six. It had a collection of pixelated cartoon girls in cool outfits, some song lyrics, and a stats page that included my home address (yikes).

CORLEONE: THE SHAKESPEAREAN GODFATHER is back for one final week on the PT stage! Here are more photos taken by Artistic Director, Ron Reed.

Set designer, Heidi Wilkinson shares her thoughts on set designing for, CORLEONE: THE SHAKESPEAREAN GODFATHER.

When Mindy Parfitt and I sat down to talk about design for the show, we realized that we needed something very simple; part of this was because of budget but primarily it was to help keep the many scene changes moving fluidly. What stood out to us in the story of the Corleone, is despite all of the corruption and violence, there is this unwavering loyalty to family and we wanted to convey that somehow.

I loved the idea of a fresco and using it to create a suggestive family tree. I felt that it would work well with the unique space that Pacific Theatre provides. It worked visually with every location we are in as we follow the story: it gives the sense of Italy, it’s reminiscent of a wall in a restaurant, and it even worked in Vito’s office as, upon research, I discovered that many wealthier Italian families in New York in the 1940’s had frescos or murals on a feature wall in their homes. Making the decision of the family tree actually being an orange tree was our own personal homage to the original movie and the symbolism that the orange played within it. And while I wanted to show the Corleone connection to family, I felt that it was also important to show the ramifications of the men's lifestyle and how it was actually destroying the family. When you look at the two frescos in the theatre space, you will notice that one mural is a full and healthy orange tree while the fresco on the opposing wall depicts the same tree with all of the leaves and oranges having fallen to the ground.
