dec 15 | el nino

Got an email today from a PT friend who's in the Vancouver Bach Choir about a very Soul-Foody performance they're doing. Below is a snippet of his letter, explaining the concert in detail.

It's a Christmas-themed oratorio, vaguely on the order of Handel's Messiah, but with a more modern score, and very much a modern sensibility, focusing on Mary's perspective on the nativity, and including non-Biblical sources relating the standard story to modern audiences. (I.e. it includes poetry about colonialism and 20th century civil disobedience and police brutality.)

It's a huge work, with multiple choirs, several soloists, the and the Vancouver Symphony. I could go on, but I'm sure you get the idea: that this concert is not only really interesting and mind-blowingly beautiful, but pretty grand-scale for the local music scene, so I'm going out on a limb and recommending it (highly) to those who don't regularly attend choral concerts or get into Christian-themed events.
